Eggersmann introduces electric mobile shredder

Sep 26, 2023

Germany-based recycling equipment manufacturer Eggersmann has introduced an electric high-torque shredder that it says is 100 percent emissions-free.

The company says its new Z 50 E shredder harnesses the power and performance of a diesel engine but with an emissions-free operation to offer even more environmental protection in recycling.

Power is supplied via a plug-and-play system and the machine is equipped with a chassis on tracks, a radio remote control system and a battery pack. This way, the shredder can be moved on-site without being connected to the power grid using a remote control, and without the need for a towing vehicle. Since the drive no longer generates exhaust, the company says the shredder can also be used indoors without emissions.

The company says the Z 50 E is a lower-maintenance model due to its electric motor, and its uptime is longer than other Eggersmann shredders while maintaining many of the characteristics of its Z 50 model, including interchangeable shredding tools and an optional screen basket system with different hole sizes.

Eggersmann touts the Z 50 E as an all-around machine in terms of its performance, saying it resembles its diesel or diesel-electric brothers in that it not only shreds organic waste such as green waste, wood waste, roots or logs, but also other demanding materials. Possible applications range from standard municipal solid waste, such as household or commercial waste, to bulky waste, mattresses, solar panels, mixed construction and demolition waste, tires and more.

The Z 50 E electric single-shaft shredder was presented to the public for the first time at the IFAT 2022 trade show in Munich together with the F38 dual-shaft shredder, which Eggersmann says is also 100 percent electrically driven and is expected to be introduced into the U.S. market in the future.
